CALAPE AMATEUR BOXER TRAINING PROGRAM

 Introduction

The Municipality of Calape a 3rd class municipality, with its vision to develop and upgrade morale of the youth citizenry in this municipality, the Local Government Unit is promoting sports in boxing and will be launching different seminars and training sessions for boxing enthusiast. Boxing sports has been the prestige of the Filipino people thru the triumph made by Manny Pacquiao in the boxing world and the local administration feels that today is the right time to sow the seed and to start the programming for the development of boxers in the locality since boxing spirit in the country is on its peak. The sport of boxing is typically fit for the Filipino youth and it has been proven and shown to the world with the grandeur made by Filipino boxers everywhere in the globe. To paddle with the current trend in our nation given encouragement by our boxers, with the participation of various sector in the society, the Local Governance thru the Municipal Sports Council is providing assistance in term of trainings to all the youth in the community who has potentials in boxing.

Objectives

To produce from selected boxing enthusiast in the Calape, fine good quality boxer and to develop their skills thru systematic boxing training.

Background

Initial listing of potential boxers in our town were made available upon various play offs done by the Local Government Units in participation with the Amateur Boxing Association of Calape (ABACA). The boxers came from different barangays within the municipality were found out to have skills and adoration in boxing. With the continuous support of the Local Chief Executives, the Amateur Boxing Association of Calape decided to create system in the development of the players which include the provision of a training gym and training instructor. Members of Amateur Boxing Association of Calape have undergone several seminars on boxing hosted by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) and by representatives of ALA Stable in Cebu City. Equipped with knowledge in boxing rules and regulations including actual management during several boxing playoffs, the association will stand as the working group in the development of boxing in the municipality under the umbrella of the Municipal Sports Council of Calape. The LGU had also acquired a new boxing arena which will be used in every official boxing event in the municipality.

Rationale

It has been observed during the several playoffs under the inter-barangay boxing bouts, potential boxer needs to be directed personally by a trained boxing coach during games and in the boxer regular training routines including promotions and the development of good moral character of their boxers.

Methodology

Provide continuous seminar and training for boxing coaches.
 Accredit interested boxers in the municipality
 Provide an official boxing arena for various local playoffs
 Provide upgrading seminars for boxing officials
 Install and manage practice gym
 Provide a regular training instructor for boxers
 Provide system in the promotion of boxers
 Provide possible livelihood program to support potential boxers
 Formulate monthly inter-barangay boxing playoffs

Sustainability

The Municipal Sports Council with the participation of the Amateur Boxing Association of Calape (ABACA) shall formulate a comprehensive five year plan for the development of boxing in the municipality.

Conclusion

The vision of the Municipality of Calape in its entirety is to promote the town brought by the development of sports particularly in the world of boxing. The goals and objectives will only be achieve if the program for boxing sports is effectively executed each year by management and the product will be that Calape will be the home of new generation of boxers in the world.
