The Municipality of Calape, a 4^th class municipality, is at the western part of Bohol.  It is roughly trapezoidal in shape with a built-in pouch at its small base.  Forming its boundaries are the Bohol Strait on the west; the municipality of Tubigon on the north; the municipalities of Antequera and San Isidro on the east and the municipality of Loon on the south. Its poblacion is approximately 41.5 kilometers from the provincial capital city of Tagbilaran.  It can also be reached from the bustling metropolis of Cebu City, the regional

capital in about two hours by boat through the

Municipality of Tubigon. Calape is the 24^th largest

municipality in terms of land area of forty seven (47)

municipalities of the Province of Bohol.  It is composed of thirty three (33) barangays, eighteen (18) of which are coastal barangays.Calape has 2 main islands, namely Pangangan, which is composed of eight (8) barangays and the island Barangay of Mantatao.  It has also two uninhabited islets, namely, Poom Island and Basihan Island. Calape has an aggregate total land area of 8,217.6237 hectares with approximately 28 kilometers of shorelines including the 16 kilometers in the islands and 128 square kilometers area of municipal seawaters It has four (4) main rivers namely, Tultugan and Liboron that empties into Calape Bay and the Calunasan and Abucayan Norte that empties into the Tipcan Bay. As of 1995 Census of Population and Housing, there are 26,057 total population and 5,097 total number of households with an average household size of  5.
